Civil works at the Edward River Village will begin after Edward River Council councillors resolved at last week’s council meeting to get the contractors to proceed with stage one of the project.
The start of the works follows on from a decision by council in February to accept the tender by the contractors for the $1,051,275 civil works project.
Stage one of the project is preparation work and will include things such as roadworks and guttering.
It will not include works on the actual building.
The resolution was not actioned in February as council wanted to do further investigations regarding the Edward River Village Project as a whole.
Council is now ready to do the works.
In a report tabled to the council meeting, council’s projects and capital works acting manager Michael Eddie said council officers were reviewing some design changes that may be incorporated into the contract before it starts in August.
Possible materials changes may include asphalt pavements in lieu of the concrete currently specified, Mr Eddie said.
Council officers will also use the period up to construction commencement, to optimise the installation of underground services such as power and the national broadband network, Mr Eddie said.
