The club hosted its annual Fourths vs the parents/special person match, and it was a close affair.
The adults looked to have the measure of the young Rams and opened up an early lead.
Geoff McCallum and Katie Wren provided plenty of run, but a hamstring for McCallum and a calf for Shane Moorse proved costly as their limited preparation began to take a toll.
The match was all square with seconds left, when young defender Tom Murray moved forward and kicked truly from the 50 to give the Fourths the win.
It was a fantastic club atmosphere and a great night was had by all, a big thank you to those involved.
A netball game was also played between under-15s netballers and younger members of the Thirds football side, and between the older Thirds and the under-17s netballers.
Plenty of fun was had by all and a special mention of Miller Fitzpatrick getting a two minute send off from the umpire.
Riders hit the road
Locals Scott Fullerton and David Pearson departed for their epic adventure to the red centre on Friday, to raise money and awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.
Today is their fifth day on the 3,594km Black Dog Ride, which will finish in Alice Springs on August 12.
It is actually a rest day for the participants, who will be able to relax, take in their surroundings at Longreach in Queensland and start some open conversations about mental health with their fellow riders.
The riders are back on their bikes tomorrow for the 1820km journey from Longreach to Mt Isa, Mt Isa to Tennent Creek and then Tennant Creek to Alice Springs.
Perin represents
Deniliquin-based Federal Senator Perin Davey has taken a local challenge to promote Deni one step further, last week wearing one of the famed ‘I know someone from Deni’ T-shirts in Parliament.
Perin was presented with one of the T-shirts by Mayor Peta Betts during an official catch-up between the Senator and council a short time ago.
In addressing the Senate, Perin challenged her colleagues to make it their mission to meet at least one person from Deniliquin (other than her).
“If you don’t already know someone from Deni, get in the car, go for a drive and meet someone, because they’re a good mob,” she said.
Perin also used her time at the podium to spruik the beach to beach walk and adjacent Edward River, state forests, national park and Peppin Heritage Centre, among other local landmarks and highlights.
The ‘I know someone from Deni’ T-shirts are among a range created and sold by the Naponda Auxiliary, which raises money to support patient needs at Deniliquin Hospital.
Deni Bowlers stuck in deluge
Competition for the Deniliquin Bowling Club was going beautifully all weekend ... until the heavens opened up.
The players were coping with the light bursts of rain between the sunshine, but as they approached the final end - with play extended into early evening - the weather took a turn and bucketed down heavy rain.
The players were given the option to stop, but chose to play on.
Once in the club house, looking more than a bit drenched, they were shouted a drink each to help them recover.
