Local children will be offered coaching on their skills with games of Hot Shots tennis also played, with DJLTC coach Cal Curtis on hand to help out.
The day will see three sessions, with five to eight year-old from 9am to 11am, eight to 10 year-old from 11am to 1pm, and 10 years and up from 1pm to 3pm.
Cost for the day of coaching is $10 per child.
Junior Lawn Tennis Club president Jon Gatacre said the day will be held to give locals a taste of the upcoming season.
“The club will again be using the Hot Shots format for the upcoming season,’’ he said.
“Hot Shots is fun, social, active and the easiest way for kids aged 10 and under to learn how to play tennis.
“It’s essentially a come and try day, where we encourage kids of all ages and skill level.
‘‘We can provide racquets and equipment for any beginners and hope to again see the keen players that have been in the program for a number of years.”
The junior tennis season will start on Saturday, October 19, with the Hot Shots program featuring three different age brackets, the Red Group (5-8yrs old) and Orange Group (8-10yrs old) from 9am to 10am and Green Group (10+yrs) from 10am to 11am.
The season also includes 18 weeks of professional coaching from Curtis, with Gatacre saying that parent volunteers are also needed to help make each day run smoothly.
‘‘We encourage any parents that are keen to help out this year to sign up,’’ he said.
‘‘Any parent who wants to help can be guided by Cal Curtis throughout the year so it’s not necessary to be a tennis player to help out.
‘‘The club doesn’t run without parents and we are always thankful for all the help we receive.
‘‘Last year was exceptional but we need more parents as some of our old helpers have moved on.’’
The club’s junior squad players will again compete in Section One tennis matches from 9am, with each team member playing two sets of doubles and one set of singles.
The cost for registration is $100, with the season running from October 19 to December 14, before an eight week break for school holidays, returning on February 8 until April 4.
If you are unable to make it to the registration day at the DLTC courts, you can complete and return a registration form from Intersport Bennett’s or via email to dltcjuniors@gmail.com by Tuesday.
