Having one national competitor in the family is an amazing feat, but two is ever better.

Brothers Beau and Jesse Jervis recently competed for the national titles in several whipcracking categories.
At the 2025 AWPA Australian Whipcracking Championships, Beau competed in the Juvenile (12 & Under) and open accuracy categories, managing to finish first in both to become a dual national champion.
Jesse, who was the reigning Junior (16 & under) national champion, this year moved into the open Men’s Championship category.
With fierce competition, Jesse made the podium with a third placing.
“It was a great day and very hard fought,” Jesse said.
“The bloke that was runner-up is an 18 time Australian champion, and the bloke that won has won five times in a row.
“It was such a great crowd and high-quality competition.

“We all love to win, but the main thing is we pushed each other to do the best we could do.
“You definitely get judged on presentation and how good the crack of the whip is.”
The national championships are not the end of the events for the Jervis brothers, with more competitions ahead, fitting it in with their busy schedules.
Sister Brooke also has some competitions coming up too.
And the family of competitors are also on a mission to encourage more whipcracking champions from the Riverina.
“Brooke is at uni at the moment, but she’ll be cracking at the Deni Ute Muster,” Jesse said.
“We’ve got the Tassie titles coming up and a few other shows to compete at, too.
“We really enjoy it, and winning is just a bonus.”
After returning from the national championships, the brothers are now trying to ‘give back to the community’ ahead of the next whipcracking event at the Deni Ute Muster.
They will run a family fun day on Saturday, September 27, where people can come and learn whipcracking techniques.
It will be held from 10am to 12pm at the Conargo Recreational Reserve.
“The community have been really helpful in helping us get where we want to go, so we want to make sure we give back,” Jesse said.
“We’re doing a come and try as the Ute Muster novice event is coming up.
“Anyone of any age can come and try, give whipcracking a go, and we’ll see if we get any interest.”
A sausage sizzle and drinks will be provided, and entry is by a gold coin donation. If you’re interested, RSVP to the Conargo Whipcrackers Facebook page for catering purposes.
