It was a fantastic day, described as “another demonstration of how an empowered club membership can achieve great things”.
The 2023 Signature Tour for Tour de Cure will run from March 16 to 24 and cover 1100km from Coffs Harbor to Noosa.
It will be Vince’s fifth ride with Tour de Cure Australia, and he is aiming to raise $25,000 through his participation.
Tour de Cure is a charity with a simple mission; find the cure for cancer.
Over 15 years it has raised $75 million and funded over 600 cancer research projects that have resulted in 75 significant breakthroughs.
Vince spoke on Sunday about his appreciation for the support of the community, club, members and friends, but asked that participants look beyond the event as simply supporting him.
Riding a bike and hosting a charity golf day are only a conduit for the community to show its generosity and a desire to support those impacted by cancer and their families.
Winners in Sunday’s ambrose competition, which featured enlarged eight inch holes, was the team comprising Mandy Phyland, Lindy Begg, Brian Bourke and Peter Oddy with a brilliant score of 49 net, (14 under off the stick).
The winners demonstrated what the day was all about, promptly auctioning their trophy of four bottles of a beautiful 2018 McLaren Vale Shiraz and donating the proceeds to the day.
Runners-up were the team of Prue Lloyd, Felicity McCalman, Terry Howe and Clay Howe on 52.5, and third place went to Rusty Milward, Cody Learmonth, James Bradford and Josh McMahon 52.75 on countback.
Last Thursday the ladies played stableford, won by Shandra Simpson with 36 points from runner-up Jill Jeffrey 33.
Saturday was four person ambrose and qualifying round for The Scramble.
Winners were Ross Taylor, Craig Manning, Gary Stephens and Troy Grant with net 57.5 and runners-up Sean Drennan, Leigh Marshall, Leigh Strongman and Todd Marshall 58.5.
Wednesday’s field was again impacted by a wet golf course with no carts permitted, which ruled out many of our senior Wednesday players.
The winner was Jamie Loy with an impressive 41 points, from runner-up Oscar Marshall 39.
A note for parents who want their youngsters to get involved in golf, or stay involved.
Parents can claim two $100 vouchers per school child per calendar year to assist in meeting the cost of sports registration or membership fees, and these vouchers are accepted at the Golf Club for junior memberships.
There is plenty of action coming up at the club, including the Veterans Week of Golf from Monday, October 10 to Friday, October 14.
Also on October 14 is the launch of the mental health initiative ‘Up To Par’.
This will take place from 3pm with free nine holes of golf, a putting competition, free barbecue and salads, plus raffles and prizes.
To book a table, phone the club on 5881 1325.
Also coming up soon, with the start of Daylight Savings, is the Summer Sixers. Get your team organised.
Finally, members are advised that the club will only be open today until 2pm, due to the Ute Muster.
There will be no meals or raffles on tonight. Friday Fun resumes next week.
