They defeated a determined Deniliquin Rovers outfit 22-16 to cap off a memorable season.
The match lived up to its grand final billing, with both teams showcasing skill, courage, and composure under pressure.
From the first centre pass, it was clear that neither side would give an inch, and the opening quarter saw intense defensive pressure and slick ball movement from both ends of the court.
Goal sneak Peggy McKenzie led well to create goaling opportunities for young star, and co-captain, Ella Charlton.
Guided by skilled co-captain Kaydnce Sibraa, and teaming with Lexi Bucholtz, Blighty edged ahead early with clean passages of play through the mid-court and direct passing into the goal ring to the reliable Indi Bain.
However, the Rovers weren’t about to let the game slip away, responding with determination and grit to claw their way back into the contest.
By half-time, the margin was narrowed to just one goal, setting the stage for a gripping second half.
The third quarter was a true arm-wrestle, with both teams trading goals and momentum swinging back and forth.
Shelby Huckin and Sophie Pearn were tight in defence with tight marking and clean intercepts, while mid-court defenders Georgie Butcher and Myah Gazzara caused many deflections.
Alice Petersen stepped up in goals, using her height to her advantage.
Isla Andrews was swift and clean, supporting the mid-court and passing into the ring.
At the final break, the scores were locked, and it was anyone’s game heading into the last quarter.
With everything on the line, Blighty showed remarkable composure and unity in the final term.
The team regrouped, tightened their structures, and came out firing.
The mid-court lifted, linking up well and driving the ball into attack with confidence and accuracy.
The shooters found their rhythm again, converting under pressure, while the defensive end increased their pressure to create more turn-overs.
It was a dominant and disciplined final term that saw Blighty pulling away from their opponents and claiming the premiership.
The win capped off a remarkable season for the Blighty girls. Finishing the season in fifth place to winning the final is a formidable team effort.
With a strong focus on fun, laughter and teamwork, these girls prove that you can win and have fun.
All players have made pivotal contributions to the team throughout the year, and this is a win not only for the young girls but the whole Blighty Football Netball Club.
