The Redeyes are searching for their first win this season after unsuccessfully trying to break down that barrier against a strong Strathmerton team last week, losing by 63 points.
Coach Dane Leyden said the result wasn’t as good as the team would have liked, with the eighth placed Strathmerton side demonstrating their quality.
“We hurt ourselves there with a slow start.
“The little things let us down, including skills, and although we got the scoreboard a little bit more in check later in the game, playing two or three good quarters, it was a hill we just couldn’t climb after the first quarter.
“But credit to them, they kicked goals and converted from hard angles which are difficult to stop, and there’s not a lot else you can do about that.”
This week, Blighty is at home to play 10th placed Katunga, who have had an up and down season with four wins and six losses.
Leyden is hoping his side can start peaking at this time of year, viewing tomorrow’s game as one of the winnable games on the horizon.
“They’re definitely a beatable side, I think.
“It’s a long year, especially in the cold conditions.
“I’m just trying to stress to the boys that now is the time to be making sure we’re hitting the training track really hard during the week.
“It can be hard at this time of year for the team to stay motivated, but I’m kind of promising there will be a win coming up. So I’m hoping that’s the case, and I’m really focused on keeping the side optimistic.”
Following the game tomorrow is the Blighty Football Netball Club annual ball, which Leyden said is an added incentive for the team to get a win and let their hair down a little bit.
“Our mid-year ball is after the game, so hopefully we can get a win and can enjoy that.
“Hopefully, similar to the first function of the year, we see a lot of the partners attend and hopefully people can let loose - to take a chance to come together and enjoy themselves.”
Doors open at the Blighty Recreation Reserve from 6.30pm, with catering by Rachael Munro from Cafe 100. Live music will be performed by The Drowning Sorrows.
A bus service to and from Deniliquin is available.
The Blighty members’ draw will also be drawn at the ball, and the member must be present to win.
