In a gripping preliminary final showdown, the Blighty under-13s netball team emerged victorious against Tungamah.
They secured a hard-fought win to book their place in the much-anticipated Picola League grand final.
From the opening whistle, both teams displayed great intensity and competitive spirit.
Tungamah started strongly, applying early pressure through aggressive defence and quick transitions, which kept the scores close in the first quarter.
Blighty’s mid-court players were led by co-captain and centre court dynamo Kaydnce Sibraa, who teamed with Lexi Bucholtz and Isla Andrews to steadily gain control of the game.
They did so by dominating the centre passes and feeding their shooters with precise passes.
The Blighty shooters, including Ella Charlton, Alice Petersen, Peggy McKenzie and Indi Bain, were clinical in their movement.
Their accuracy under pressure was a standout feature, particularly in the second half when the match was finely poised.
Meanwhile, Blighty’s defensive end, led by Shelby Huckin and Sophie Pearn, worked tirelessly to disrupt Tungamah’s attacking flow.
With key intercepts and rebounds, and significant pressure from wing defenders, Myah Gazzara and Georgie Butcher, it turned the momentum in their favour.
The third quarter proved pivotal as Blighty gradually extended their lead through disciplined play and smart tactical adjustments by their coach.
Communication on court was excellent, allowing Blighty to maintain composure and control the tempo against a determined Tungamah side that refused to give up.
In the final quarter, despite Tungamah’s efforts to close the gap with fast breaks and strategic substitutions, Blighty’s resilience shone through.
The team’s teamwork and enthusiasm enabled them to hold off the late surge and secure a four-goal margin at the final siren.
This victory is a testament to the Blighty under-13s dedication, skill development, and strong team cohesion throughout the season.
Their journey to the grand final reflects their commitment to continuous improvement and their ability to perform under pressure.
The Blighty squad and coaching staff now turn their focus to the grand final, carrying the confidence and momentum gained from this memorable win.
Supporters and the local community eagerly await what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the season.
