Blues outmatched against league leader

Callum Tucker and Tongala were up against it taking on league leader Congupna.

Tongala found itself up against the form side in country football at the weekend in the penultimate round of Murray Football League action.

The Blues faced off with undefeated leader and reigning champion Congupna and The Road continued their rampage through the division, picking up a 27.18 (180) to 7.9 (51) win.

The hosts’ overwhelming scoring pressure was evident from the opening quarter and, although Tongala turned in a respectable 4.2 quarter, it still found itself in a big hole as Congupna replied with eight majors.

The Blues’ attack fell off as the game went on, while The Road continued to add to their tally and, by the final quarter, Tongala was unable to score at all, while Congupna piled on 10 goals.

Kyle Mueller put himself in with a chance to join the 100 club by the end of the season with a ridiculous 11 goals, bringing him to 83 for the year, while Daniel Schaper was next best with four.

For Tongala only Sam Cipriani (2) could find the target more than once.

The Blues conclude a horror final month of fixtures when they host Mulwala at Tongala Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

Tongala (ninth) could finish the year as high as eighth or as low as 10th depending on the outcome of that game and the Deniliquin versus Echuca United contest.
