Deniliquin’s Jock Landale and his Boomers teammates were brought down by the Canadian men’s team on Tuesday, 93-83.
The Canadian team were able to chase down the Aussies in the second half, after being outscored through the first two quarters.
Landale performed outstandingly, recording a double-double, chipping in with 16 points and another 12 rebounds.
Canada’s second half wiped any lead or momentum the Boomers and Landale had, after the Aussies took a five point lead into the half-time break.
In opening their Olympics account at the weekend, the Boomers defeated Spain 92-80.
Landale played a vital role in the win.
The game was back and forth through the first half, Australia threatening to break away at times.
The Australian team won't be stewing on the Canada loss for too long, as they will have to turn their focus to the Greek team.
They play tonight, Australian time, at 9.30pm.
Greece have lost their first two games, against the US and Spain.
If the Boomers defeat Greece, they are likely to advance to the next round of competition.

Willett eliminated
Former Deniliquin Clay Target Club member James Willett also had a successful start to another Olympics, but sadly was unable to continue his good form in the days that followed.
The Yarrawonga local was in second place at the Paris Olympics after three qualifying rounds of the Men’s Trap event.
But he “misfired” in the next rounds held Tuesday, to become the first eliminated from the race.
Willett's consolation was achieving the best result by an Australian in the event since Michael Diamond finished fourth in London 2012.
