Bush Whackers were led by their new recruits, with Ben Littmann scoring 39 points and George Willis and Jason Kerr each scoring 36.
Peter Winchcomb also had an excellent 38 points to round out the Whackers’ scores.
For Old Boys, Brian Dixon was best with 35 points, with Dan Wade scoring 33.
Surprisingly the win wasn’t sufficient for Whackers to take top spot after round one.
That honour went to the new team, Tell Him He’s Dreamin.
Captain Noel Swainger must be wondering if he is dreaming, after his side recorded the best win of the opening round.
They defeating Par-Tee Poppers 146–119.
The Dreamers were led by Col Thompson with 43 points, with Bob Landy getting 35, and Dickie Grant and Ron Turner each scoring 34 and providing excellent support.
The shining light for Par-Tee Poppers was Jamie Loy with 36 points.
The Wedgies and Big Ballers produced the closet result of the round.
Big Ballers captain Ross Taylor led his side from the front with a match high of 39 points, well supported by Robert Armytage with 34.
But with only four players available in round one, it was always going to be a struggle to post a competitive total.
The Wedgies produced an even scoring performance with Gary Rodda and Vince Kelly each scoring 36 points, Geoff King 34 and Sarah Aitken 31 to take the win 137–126.
The Eclectics got their season off on the right foot with a 133–118 win over last year’s grand finalist, Eagles & Birdies.
Prue Grant and Shandra Simpson each scored 35 points for the Eclectics, with Leigh Chappell on 33 and Ali Ferguson’s 30 rounding out the scores.
Jenny Swainger was best of the Birdies, with 32 points.
Round two of Premier League will be played this Saturday, August 20.
