Lucy Horne was drawn to play against Annie Romanin for three sets.
While they both had a personal point to make as to who would win on the evening, there was also the opportunity to push their team forward.
Annie Romanin plays for the leading team Peppin Planners while Legal Eagles are running fourth.
In their first set, Horne was the victor 6-5.
In the second set Horne again won 6-5, and again in the mixed set with the same score.
So Horne was a three set winner for the night, and Romanin was a three set loser.
The pair played 33 games on the evening, with Horne winning 18 and Romanin 15.
It was a close, well fought out couple of sets, with each set decided by a tie-breaker. It was great tennis.
Despite the tie loss, Romanin’s team Peppin went on to win the match 15 sets 136 games to Eagles’ 11 sets 106 games.
Other three set winners were Nick Henderson, Jamie Loy and Mary James.
Peppin were steady throughout the match, winning each of the three rounds and winning five sets in each of those rounds.
There were seven sets decided by tie-break and perhaps a bit surprising was that Peppin, while winning the match, lost the tie-breaks 5-2.
Maybe they just need to practice winning tie-breaks?
It was also a close match between teams placed second and third on the table, when Deni Newsagency played Mitre 10.
Mitre 10 was running second on 72 sets, while Newsagency was third on 68 sets.
Deni Newsagency was able to turn around their position on the table, winning 14 sets 115 to Mitre 10 won 12 sets 124 games.
Yes, they won the games by nine but lost in the sets.
The match ebbed and flowed, with Newsagency winning the first round 5-3 and the second round 5-4.
So Newsagency began the last round leading 10 sets to seven.
In the mixed set, Mitre 10 was able to turn around the result and won the round 5-4, but this still left them one set from a draw and therefore a win on games.
The match had six sets decided by tie-breaker, but these were decided three each.
Deni Newsagency had three different three set winners - Bella Galbraith, Steph Calder and Jamie Chadderton.
Mitre 10 had two three set winners - Riley Hamilton and Monty Jones.
The result tightens up the team positions.
Mitre 10 and Deni Newsagency are now equal second with 84 sets each, ahead of the fourth placed Legal Eagles on 69 sets.
Ladder leaders are Peppin on 99 sets.
This week, Peppin play Mitre 10 and Deni Newsagency play Legal Eagles.
There are three rounds remaining, before a grand final between the two leading teams. All players in the teams will need to be play the grand final.
