Conor this week obtained gold in the discipline at the NSW All Schools State Championships at Homebush in Sydney.
It makes him the top shot putter of his age group in the state, and means he now goes on to compete at a national level.
Connor won the gold with a massive throw of 13.91m, which was 58cm further than his Combined High School’s gold medal throw which saw him progress to state.
And Connor had his home town clearly on display during the performance, having to wear his school shirt to compete on day one when his competition singlet was lost in the post.
Mum Kirsty Wilson rectified the situation with a trip to the sports store as soon as she found time.
Connor will now set his sights on the national titles in December, where he will be a member of the Athletics NSW squad.
His goal is to improve on his state throw, with an aim for 14m.
Deniliquin High School praised the young sports star on their Facebook page, saying “We are so very proud of Connor, as he is an outstanding athlete and ambassador for the school”.
Kirsty and the family are also proud of Connor, who she described as “humble and level- headed”.
“He has set goals, he has places he wants to go and he is willing to put in the work to achieve these goals,” she said.
“When he’s not in the gym, swimming or practising, he is out fishing and relaxing”.
Connor also qualified to compete in the state discus and javelin. He placed fourth and fifth respectively.
