An undermanned Mathoura side suffered a 207 point loss to Tungamah at home last weekend.
Cutters senior football head coach Adam Bourke said ill-discipline was the main factor in the sides' loss last week, hurting the side against a good Tungamah.
“There are always some positives to take out of a game,” he said.
“However, firstly and disappointingly, I will say some of the negatives were that we had three players sent off across the game.
“We had two players sent off in the first half, so we were down to 16 for a large period of the game.
“Then one of the replacement players got sent off, all of which is disappointing and is just not good enough in terms of discipline.
“It makes it very hard, especially against quality opposition like Tungamah.”
Bourke said the Cutters had some shots at goal, but “struggled to get it deep enough with a bit of a breeze throughout the game”.
“I thought they were really good at adapting to the breeze but we were missing kicks, handballs, marks and tackles, so we really have to work on the fundamentals, and that starts at training.
“Positively we had some new faces to the club which was really good.
“Unfortunately, we are missing three or four of our better players, when we’re already struggling with depth, so that makes it hard.”
Bourke also touched on the effort of Cutters president Blake Keech, who played his 300th game for the club with the seniors on the weekend.
“It’s a phenomenal milestone. It typifies Mathoura a little bit at the moment.
“The president is also coaching the reserves, and then playing his 300th game in the seniors.
“Unfortunately, Blake was one of the players who got a bit ill-disciplined on-field, but hopefully, we move on from that this week.”
This round, Mathoura will make the journey to Tocumwal to play the Bloods.
The Cutters will not be taking Tocumwal lightly, with the senior football side continuing to look to create an upset.
“We’re looking forward to taking on Tocumwal. We’ll bring one more of those new faces into the starting lineup for their first senior game, which is exciting.
“We’ll be expecting a tough side; they’ve beaten some good teams.
“We’re trying to be competitive and would love to get an upset. Each week that is what we’ll be striving for.
“We have to get the footy fundamentals right, and hopefully, we’ll be halfway in it in the first quarter so we’ll be really focused on starting well.”
