Deni bowlers among best at Echuca carnival

Deniliquin had several players competing as part of the bowls carnival season across the region, starting with the Echuca Bowls Club’s carnival.

Starting on May 1, the competition came to an end last Friday, and included pairs, fours, two and three-bowl triples and medley pairs.

The marquee event was the Dan Scott Memorial three-bowl mixed pairs' event.

Bowlers from the region and around the state travelled to the area to participate.

Deniliquin RSL and Deniliquin Bowling Club players competed during the tournament, with three placing in the carnival categories.

DBC's Chris Taylor paired with Vicki Tierney from Echuca to win the Ladies Pairs.

Deni RSL’s Gaye Goodwin and her sister Joan Dovaston, from Echuca, were runners-up in the same event.

In the mixed pairs, Terry Taylor from DBC partnered with Rhonda Gallagher from Echuca and snagged runners-up.

Deni RSL players Jo Chick, Niels Hilton and Garry and John Hulm also competed during the week, including in the mixed fours action on Friday, May 2.

Other Deniliquin representatives included Tony and Jenny Tonta and Wayne and Cheryl Bradley from the Deni RSL, and Craig Hillier, Jade Hipworth and Monique Crothers from the Deni Bowling Club.
