Player and coach, Drew Hinkley, was awarded the highly prestigious Best Forward award.
In addition, Kurt Longford - a player and the club’s founder - was presented with the very first Club Official of the Year award.
“I didn’t think I was going to get an award. I’m humbled and delighted,” Longford said.
The award is a fitting honour for a man who was able to bring a club to Deniliquin, when so many assumed it couldn’t be done.
Just missing out on an award was Bede Orr, who came a close second in the Rookie Player of the Year.
After a wonderful season at the club, the Heelers look forward to having him around going into next season.
“Bede was one of our best all season,” Longford said.
“He came across from Aussie Rules, and he’s made the switch nicely.”
Although the Heelers don’t have a women’s team, club treasurer Fiona Casey pulled on the boots for Goolgowi this season.
At their club awards, she was named Best Back.
With the Heelers looking to introduce a women’s team into the future, Casey will be a very promising start.
“It’s a small competition (The Proten Cup), and the women's comp currently has two less than the men’s,” she explained.
“If we could get a Deni women's team, it would be a great thing for the competition.”
Deni’s Fiona Casey won Goolgowi’s women's Best Back award.
