The DNA was in danger of collapsing, with no nominations for the top job at the recent AGM.
By accepting the role Donna will take on the new season with the help of a fresh committee, ready to go.
Donna remembers playing here as a kid, then returning as an adult and watching her children come through the ranks.
“DNA is a long standing organisation, important to many families in our community, letting it fold was not an option,” she said.
“I think it is important to foster a sense of enjoyment from sport.
“Let the kids have fun playing netball, interacting with their peers and developing a sense of comradery that I hope will see them involved for years to come.”
With a fresh committee comes fresh ideas which Donna and the committee say they are ready to implement.
“We have lots of ideas and a great group of people motivated to provide opportunities to the Deniliquin community, both kids and adults,” she said.
“We are still transitioning and once details are finalised we will confirm our goals for the next 12 months.”
The first item to be addressed is the state of the netball courts.
“Our first role will be to get the netball courts operational again following the flood effects that have surfaced,” Donna said.
“The rebuild will be in conjunction with Deniliquin Rhinos Cricket Club and Edward River Council.
“It will be exciting to see it come to fruition,” she continued.
“We have high hopes for another successful year of Wednesday night competition registrations and rep team opportunities.”
The next competition is expected to be the Spring Comp which will start in term four, with registrations opening late in term three.
When asked if there is anything our community can do to help Donna said it “would be great to have more people come forward to offer their assistance”.
“You don’t need to know how to play netball to help out.
“There are many small ways to assist that have a big impact,” she said.
“Businesses who are interested in helping us acknowledge kids stepping out of their comfort zone to try something new or encourage their long term involvement in sport would be greatly appreciated.
“They can help through sponsorships, collaborations, or any other suggestions they have are always welcomed.”
Donna acknowledged the committee members who held up DNA for the last couple of years and continue to stay on to see the organisation thrive.
“There is no way I could have taken on the role without this stability.
“Thank you to the new members who have put their hand up to join the 2023-2024 committee and those stepping in to help from the sidelines,” she said.
“A great deal of appreciation goes to those who have provided their support in the short time since I have taken on the role, especially Clint Free (Rams President), John Glowry and Nicole Birmingham (Rovers) and Edward River Council for reaching out to provide assistance.
“It is wonderful to be part of a community that helps prop each other up.
“I am very aware that I am representing a group of people and together we will work towards the best outcome for DNA.”
