The Deni Drovers are keen to put together a decent showing on the rugby field for round one of the Southern Inland Rugby Union season tomorrow, with a clash against neighbours the Hay Cutters.
With coach Joe Gogarty at the helm again this year, the Drovers are hopeful to put their mixed preseason behind them.
The club had been planning to field a first grade side this year, but after losing a handful of players who have moved due to work commitments the Drovers will play third grade instead.
New Deniliquin Drovers Rugby Union club president Nathan Holahan said despite the setbacks, a strong fourth-place showing at the Ballarat charity Rugby Union 7s competition has buoyed the side.
Although the numbers are not settled, Holahan said “the club will reassess as we head into the season”.
The side will likely feature a younger squad than last year, with the team’s inexperience an opportunity to grow and develop good habits.
The Drovers will play at home, at Deniliquin Rotary Park, tomorrow from 3pm. Any new or existing rugby supporters are welcome to attend.
