The Eagles took down finals side Nathalia on its home patch, recovering from a half-time deficit to secure a five-point win in round 17.
The first quarter at Nathalia Recreation Reserve was a balanced one, both sides kicking three majors.
The Purples held a slight edge at the break, up two minor scores, but kicked into gear in the second period.
Five majors went Nathalia’s way in the term, compared to two for United, while an increasing minor score advantage helped the Purples to an 8.6 (54) to 5.1 (31) lead at half-time.
The half-time address appeared to do wonders for the Eagles and an entirely different game ensued after the break.
The once free-flowing Nathalia attack completely dried up and the Purples wouldn’t kick another goal for the game.
Meanwhile, United found four goals in the third term to lead by a point at the final change, before slotting a late major in the fourth to again find its way to the front at the final siren, 10.5 (65) to 8.12 (60).
Anthony McMahon led the Eagles' goal-kicking effort with three, while best-on-ground Oliver Poole and Ryan Stobaus managed two each.
The result improves Echuca United to five wins for the year, while it remains in 10th place.
The Eagles' last game of the season will be against Deniliquin at Echuca South Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
United has the opportunity to move as high as eighth, leapfrogging Tongala and the Rams, with a win.
