Newman has a long list of footballing accolades, including being the first Cat to reach the 300 VFL game milestone, a two-time best-and-fairest winner, an All-Australian (1969), Geelong Team of the Century and a Hall of Fame member.
After his football career finished in 1980, Newman turned his hand to media work and was, for a long period throughout the 1990s and 2000s, one of the most prominent and controversial figures in the AFL media.
Ensign photographer Brenden Paddock was at the luncheon to capture it all.
