The GSBA junior tournament featured 15 divisions of junior girls and boys teams across the weekend of December 6 and 7, with age groups as young as under-12 to under-18.
In a 10-team competition, divided into two five-team pools, the champs division of the boys under-18 age group saw the Gators finish with an even record of 2-2, finishing third in Pool A to narrowly miss an opportunity to play finals.
Shepparton opened its tournament with two wins, defeating Mildura by seven points, before cruising by Swan Hill by 19 points.
However, the opponents went up a notch thereafter and the Gators were felled by eventual competition champion Hamilton by 28 points, before a loss to Portland by 15.
News photographer Rechelle Zammit took a seat on Greater Shepparton Secondary College’s hardwood to capture the Gators’ final tournament game, as an even contribution across the court saw all under-18 boys sink a bucket despite the loss.
