Kurt Longford said it’s the next logical step after enough interest was shown at a meeting in May to continue looking at forming the Deniliquin Blue Heelers Rugby League Club.
While called an AGM, the meeting was called more as a means to gauge interest.
No executive committee has been elected.
Longford said he is positive there will be enough support to set his eyes on a 2025 season start.
He will work toward that goal with the support of Dave Skinner, who will play a caretaking role and help form a side for the Pro Ten Men’s competition.
Longford said discussions have been held with the Pro Ten League for Deniliquin’s involvement, which have been met with positivity.
He said the next aim for the club is to get player numbers up and continue to gain sponsorship.
Longford said the appeal of the Pro Ten League competition is that it is a “short, six week competition”.
It means players aren’t pulled away from work and family commitments for legthy timeframes.
The short season also allows for other players to join the club on portability rules.
As well as a men’s side, Longford is hope to form a women’s team. Players must be 17 or above.
The season runs from mid-May through to July.
