Mitre 10 won a hard fought match to come out on top, winning 14 sets 116 games to Legal Eagles’ 12 sets 100 games.
The match was close all evening, with the first round of sets shared four-all.
Then in the second and third rounds, Mitre 10 won five sets to the Eagles’s four.
There was only one set played out into a tie-break.
Partners Jim McDonald and John Sibree wone 6-5 against Sam Parkinson and David McIlwain.
The fine streak of Mitre 10 player Jack McGrillen came to end in the fifth round.
Jack has been playing as the third man in his 10-man team.
His run of winning three sets 18 games each Wednesday was halted when he was asked to play as the number two man for Mitre 10.
Jack lined up against the experienced John Henderson.
In his first set, Jack paired with Riley Hamilton against Will Bull and Henderson.
Hamilton and McGrillen won 6-1.
Jack then paired with Hugh Landale in round two against Henderson and in form Alex O’Brian, with the former losing 6-3 - ending the run.
In the third round, Jack played with Jack Eastman against Henderson and Harley Moore.
Again, the mature pairing rose up, with Henderson and Moore winning 6-4.
There were four three set winners in each of the teams - Anish Shanbhag, Jim McDonald, Brad Aitken and Monty Jones for Mitre 10, and Alex O’Brian, Steve Todd, Lucy Horne and the evergreen Pam Wells for Eagles.
