Taking on Katunga at Katunga Recreation Reserve, the Picola District Football League clash was never in doubt, the Swans cruising to victory.
Final score: Katunga 20.20 (140) def Mathoura 1.1 (7).
Katunga logged 11 goals before the half while keeping Mathoura scoreless.
While the Cutters were able to get on the board in the third, the game was long out of reach.
Kurtlee Olsen split the sticks for the Timbercutters' lone major, while Katunga was led by Jarrod Winzer’s four.
Judging the developing Mathoura’s performances on a scale this season, there are some positives for the Cutters.
While the offence wasn’t able to fire, this is the lowest total against for the side this season, as it encounters a slightly easier draw in the next month.
Mathoura will play one win Rennie this weekend before a bye and a contest against fellow winless side Blighty.
Netball
The winless A-grade Timbercutters had one of their better starts to the game when they took on Katunga at Katunga Recreation Reserve.
The first period was a back-and-forth affair, with neither side able to find the hoop consistently, and the Swans led it by one at the break.
Mathoura couldn’t maintain its level into the second and Katunga managed to stretch out the scoreline, winning the term 15-6 and going into the main break 10 goals to the good.
The Cutters fought in the second half and put in an improved scoring performance, but were ultimately outplayed by the much higher-ranked Swans side, going down 44-24 at the final whistle.
Given Katunga’s place in the top six and Mathoura’s winless record, the scoreline can be considered a step forward for the Cutters, who will host ninth-placed Rennie this weekend.
