The Lakers dominated from start to finish, getting back to the style of football that has seen them dominate the KDL for the best part of a decade.
Suffering a tough initiation to his senior coaching career, Tyrone Muir said it was a major relief to finally have a win on the board.
“We are very happy (to be back on the winners’ list) and it is a major relief to have finally got there,” Muir said.
“After a tough start to the year with player availability and coming up against some tough opposition, it is just great to get that winning feeling back around the club.”
He said the effort around the contest and a change in mindset was pivotal in bringing about the improved result, with the focus during the week simply being getting back to basics.
“Our work-rate was a lot higher for a longer period of time, which was very pleasing,” he said.
“That enabled us to get a lot more scoring opportunities compared to the last few weeks, and our pressure was very high which forced them into mistakes.”
In terms of standouts, it was the Lakers’ young brigade that took charge, showing that the future is still bright at Nagambie Recreation Reserve.
“Young Will Dalton was fantastic coming up from the under-17s and just continued what has been a great start to the year for him,” Muir said.
“I thought our two assistant coaches in Mark Wilson and Nathan Fothergill also stood up, showing that we have a nice mix of youth and experience in our side.”
