In a huge improvement from previous meetings, Lockington-Bamawm United was just a couple of games away from its first win of the Campaspe Tennis Association season.

After losing 13-sets-to-nil last time it took on Echuca 2, LBU this time actually won more sets than its table-topping opposition, but was three games short of the overall win, 6-79 to 7-76.

The underdog effort started in the singles, with Harrison Condliffe and Simon Portwine both prevailing for LBU, 6-4 and 6-2 respectively.
The men’s doubles was a more mixed affair.
Echuca 2 won two of the three sets, claiming both 8-5, but the LBU pairing Portwine and Grant Humbert had the biggest win of the section, 8-1.

Phil Higgins featured in both winning sets for Echuca.
The women’s doubles was a similarly back-and-forth section.
Jessica Cox and Megan Farrell took their set for Echuca 8-2, but the LBU combinations picked up the win in the three remaining sets, all 8-7.

Those small margins would haunt LBU on the final scorecard and the mixed doubles sealed the game for Echuca as it took three of four sets, earning big margins in two.
Humbert and Narelle Bacon won 8-3 in LBU’s lone success, but their side was cruelly a handful of games short of the overall result.
Echuca 1 vs Rochester

The clash between Echuca 1 and Rochester was similarly tight in terms of sets, although the games margin was a little more comfortable.
Jacob Grieves and Lachlan Smith put Rochy in a good position with singles wins, both men prevailing 6-3.

However, Echuca pulled the margin back over the men’s doubles, winning all three sets by a combined margin of 24-11.
Todd Charnas and Hugh Melville scored the biggest win of the section, 8-3.
Rochy got itself back in the game in the women’s doubles, winning three of four sets to be just a few games off the lead.
Karen Taylor and Cadence Major were the standout pairing, picking up the win 8-2.

Holding a narrow games lead, Echuca 1 sealed the game in the mixed doubles, taking three of four rubbers to improve its lead by 11 games.
Charnas and Charlotta Groenewald were the leading pair in the category, winning 8-3.
Echuca 1 came away with the win, 7-83 to 6-69.

LBU remains winless heading into a clash with Rochester, while Echuca 2 leads Echuca 1 on game difference heading into the third Echuca derby of the season.
