The Deniliquin Motorcycle Association inducted two new life members at its annual presentation night on Saturday.
Janet Holmberg and Jeremy Murray were both recognised for their commitment to the club.
“Janet is the canteen manager and also helps out whenever and wherever is needed,” club member Aileen Hayes said.
“She is very organised – from ordering supplies, supervising the set-up of the canteen and providing friendly customer service.
“You will often see Janet cranking up the barbecue and providing a hot cooked breakfast on cold mornings on scheduled ride days, and at larger events.
“Thank you for all your hard work and efforts over many years.”
Murray, who was unable to attend on the night, provides time and labour to the club personally and through the family business Murray Constructions.
“Jeremy and his family have been actively involved in the club since it first became established,” Hayes said.
“Jeremy assisted with the building of the track back in 1999 and continues to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the club, and lends out his machinery when needed.”
Several certificates of appreciation were also presented to the club’s long list of sponsors, and club members Andrew McBurnie and Rob and Megan Mayo were also honoured.
“Our club is a non-profit organisation which relies on the kindness and generosity of volunteers and sponsors,” Hayes said.
“Without their ongoing support, the club would struggle to operate.
“Andrew McBurnie, club secretary, also acknowledged Megan and Robert Mayo for their ongoing support and devotion towards the club.
Megan, who is treasurer, and president Rob are unfortunately standing down from their roles at the AGM later this month.
“The club also acknowledged Andrew for his outstanding efforts in running a very successful club.
“Andrew is very passionate about motorsport which is evident in the amount of time he puts into organising ride days, maintaining the track and dealing with the general running of the club.”
Former under-19 Australian Supercross Champion Kale Makeham, who attended the presentation to award junior riders with their medallions, also paid tribute to McBurnie.
“Macca goes above and beyond for the club of Deniliquin,” he said.
“He occasionally questions his sanity with the amount of hours he is willing to put in, all for the love of the sport and the enjoyment for the kids.”
Presentation night was also a chance to celebrate the club being successful for two grants this year.
It received $5000 from Edward River Council for track upgrades.
It will include installing a new sprinkler system to existing and new sections of the track.
The Deniliquin Community Group awarded $2261 to the club, which will go towards a new pie warmer for the canteen and an outdoor aluminium picnic table.
