The end of the 2022/2023 Deniliquin Little Athletics season was celebrated on a hot evening last Friday, but some fun novelty games helped set the mood - along with a quick run through the sprinklers.

“Our presentation was our opportunity to thank all the wonderful parents/carers and volunteers who ensure Friday nights are a fun learning experience,” life member Leanne Mulham said.
A special thank you went out to the hard working committee members that do that little bit extra - Elise Manvell, Cathy Bliss, Tiff Rourke, Cassie Wilson, Dom Jansen, Sarah Young, Rachel Phillis-Campbell, Meagan Lowrey, Jane Wilkins, Janine Godden and Mulham.
Special appreciation was also given to the young volunteers who have finished their Little Athletics journey but came back this year and helped as event managers.
This included Bede Orr, Lillianne Jansen and Elena Mulham.
Leanne said a similar level of support would be needed for the sport to be available for next season.
“To ensure we have a 2023/2024 season we do need to fill the president and registrar role,” she said.
“So please put up your hand now.
“Don’t let us go into our AGM meeting in April not knowing if we are going to have another season.”
Also honoured at the presentation was Russell Gough who has helped with the barbecue each week, and at two carnivals.
“All this has also helped the club raise funds to go towards updating equipment and help travel costs for athletes to attend major carnivals,” Leanne said.
The Eddy sisters - Katelyn, Matilda and Sophie - were specifically celebrated for their efforts throughout the season, as the only athletes to achieve new club records.
They had five records between them.
Katelyn Eddy now holds the record for the under-11 80m hurdles with a time of 17.55 seconds, and in the under-11 1500m with a time of 5 minutes 50.67 seconds.
Matilda holds the record in the under-12 1500m with a time of 5:37.71, and Sophie now equals the under-9 high jump scissor kick record with a jump of 1.01m and also holds the 800m record with a time of 3:06.21.
