Golfers were faced with tough scoring conditions on Saturday for round two of the Deniliquin Golf Club Golf’s Premier League.
It meant that team scores were well below those recorded in round one.
That didn’t stop Tell Him He’s Dreamin, as they remained undefeated with a solid win over the Wedgies 132–124.
Ron Turner (35 points) and Andrew Brunker (34) lead the Dreamers, with Colin Thompson and Bob Landy scoring 32 and 31 respectively.
For Wedgies, Sarah Aiken lead the scores with 34, and Vince Kelly returned 33.
However the team’s next contibuting scores dropped off to 29 and 28 points, which proved the difference between the two sides.
After looking unbeatable in round one, Bush Whackers could only manage a draw against Big Ballers. Each team scored 121 points.
Ben Littmann again led Bush Whackers with 35 points, but the side left the door open for Big Ballers after registering scores of 29 and 28 to complete the team score.
Big Ballers were lead by Troy Grant with 34 points and Gary Stephens on 30,
but they were unable to find another score of 30 points or more, with the team returning 29 and 28 points to complete the team score.
The result show just how important every putt can be across the course of the season. Eagles & Birdies registered their first win with a narrow two point margin over Old Boys, 126-124.
Grace Tiri was best for the Birdies with 34 points, with Annette Dankert’s 32, Kerran Leetham’s 31 and Felcity McCalman’s 29 rounding out the team score.
Old Boys recorded four scores of 30 points or better, which is often good enough for a win.
John Irwin was best for his side with 33 points, Dan Wade had 31 and Scott Mildren and Don Alexander each scored 30.
Par-Tee Poppers also recorded a narrow win over Eclectics, 119–118.
Jamie Loy was again top scorer for Par-Tee Poppers, and along with Ben Littmann from Bush Whackers is making an early claim for player of the competition honours.
Prue Grant was best for the Eclectics with 30 points, and will be looking for an improved performance in the weeks ahead.
After two rounds the ladder is: Tell Him He’s Dreamin – 8 pts, 114%; Bush Whackers – 6pts, 110%; Eclectics – 4pts, 106%; The Wedgies – 4pts, 101%; Eagles & Birdies – 4pts, 95%; Par-Tee Poppers – 4pts, 90%;
Big Ballers – 2pts, 96%; Old Boys – 0pts, 90%.
Golf Premier League will have a league bye this week, with round three to be played Saturday, September 3.
