Led by coach and proud parent Gerard Collins, the Rangers currently have nine players enrolled in the tight-knit squad and are keen to welcome more girls to the fun-filled club.
Collins entered the under-10s competition last season and said all girls were welcome.
“At the moment we train on Wednesday nights and we welcome girls of all abilities who are keen to play the great game of soccer,” Collins said.
“We are looking for any young female at the under-10 age group that is keen to come down, enjoy some soccer and be part of a great social group of young girls.
“The whole purpose is to get them involved and get them active in a great club that is Mitchell and experience a great game.”
He said one of the highlights of the program was the social aspect, with the players and parents alike striking up a fantastic bond.
“We have got a terrific group of girls and a terrific group of families that are involved,” he said.
“We’ve had a couple of parents run training for me when I can’t make it and things like that, and I’m really trying to make it a family club.
“The girls are also really close and love each other’s company. We are trying to create an atmosphere of friendly competition and just enjoying playing soccer.”
A PE teacher by trade, Collins said the benefits for young girls to get involved in competitive sport like soccer were endless.
“For me, breaking the down the barriers that sport is for all and all-inclusive is super important,” he said.
“I train the girls like I would train any boys’ team. I really want them to feel part of the club and hopefully they continue on and we have a really strong female soccer presence in the region.”
So to all the girls in the region thinking of getting involved in competitive sport, Collins had this message.
“Come on down and join the fun. We are more than happy to welcome anyone keen to give soccer a go,” he said.
“It is a really fantastic environment down at Mitchell, everyone is treated with respect, and hopefully any girl that comes down will learn a thing or two about the great game that is soccer.”
