Mitre 10 has moved from second to first at the head of the places in the spring comp.
They had a convincing win over third placed Peppin Planners, winning 18 sets and 122 games to Peppin’s nine sets and 110 games.
There were four sets decided by a tie-break, and they were all won by Mitre 10.
Four Mitre 10 men won three sets and two ladies.
For the losing team Jamie Chadderton also won his three sets.
The table after five rounds sees Mitre 10 on top with 55 sets won, Legal Eagles on 51, Peppin Planners on 41 and Deni Newsagency with 27 sets.
The real upset of the evening was a win by the fourth placed team over previous comp leaders Legal Eagles.
In a close match, which again was decided by the last point of the last set, Newsagency won 14 sets and 117 games to Legal Eagles’ 13 sets and 120 games.
The Eagles can take some solace in that they lost all four sets decided by a tie-break.
There were four players in each team that won their three sets.
In the ladies sets, the score was three sets each while the Newsagency men won five sets to the Eagles six sets.
The difference was the third round, the mixed and spin, which went 6-3 to Newsagency.
The playing conditions were just perfect with little wind and a pleasant 23 degrees. We won't mention the mozzies.
