Moama has handed Rochester its first defeat of the Goulburn Murray Cricket Women’s season, prevailing by 36 runs at Windridge Oval.

Winning the toss and batting first, Rochester struggled to make indents in the Moama order, with four of the top five retiring not out after hitting the 35-ball limit.

Opener Delaney Laffy made the most of her time, making 37, while fellow opener Mia Arthurson also had an extended stay, contributing 19.
Beatrix Bray was the second leading scorer, finding the boundary six times in her 35.
Moama batted out the overs for the loss of just three wickets, putting up 3-180.

Rochy was unbeaten for a reason this season, and had a good crack at running down the big total.
Munro started things well at the top, retiring not out before being recalled later in the innings, making 35 in all.
Harriet East helped keep the game alive with Munro, finishing on 23 not out after also retiring earlier on.

However, it was Moama which had the quality with ball in hand, the difference between the two innings the Mowers’ ability to strike regularly to break up Rochester’s partnerships.
Rochy batted out the overs but fell 36 runs short, finishing 9-144.
Isla Laffy was surgical with the ball, taking 2-6, while Delaney Laffy (2-17) and Olivia Davy (2-28) also grabbed two wickets.

Moama (4-2) is the leading chaser of Rochester (5-1), but still sits a game back in second.
Next weekend, in the last round before the Christmas break, Rochester will host Cooma, while the Mowers will visit Echuca at its adopted home, Tongala Recreation Reserve.

The Lions comfortably accounted for Cooma by nine wickets at Cooma Recreation Reserve.
The BLU attack made things easy for its batters, dismissing the host for 54.
Emma Beal was a constant threat with the ball, taking 4-7, and Daneika Hucker was also in good touch with 3-9.

Sienna Brennan held firm with a 52-ball 16 not out, while Jorja Tranter (14) was the only other Cooma batter to mark double figures.
The BLU chase was measured and effective.
After losing Liz Chapman for eight, Bree Styles (27 retired not out) and Amy Fitzgerald (15 not out) steadied the ship and worked their side to the target. Ruby Brentall was only required for one ball before the winning runs were struck.

Cooma is winless this season, while BLU picked up its second victory of the campaign.
Next week, Cooma will visit Rochester, while BLU will be on the road in Nathalia.
