Division 1 took on Stanhope and went down by only three shots, 56 to 53.
Mathoura won on two rinks, with Kevin Crack, Raymond Murphy, Helen Holzer and Peter Holzer winning 24-19 and David Vallance, Glen McConchie, Arthur Murphy and Mick Humphreys winning 23-8.
But the 6-29 loss for Beryl Murray, Raymond Sangster, Adam Cowley and Ricky Ireland meant an overall loss for the Cutters.
In Division 4, Mathoura scored 63 shots to Deniliquin RSL’s 69 for another narrow loss.
Mathoura managed a win on one of three rinks on the day.
John Dean, Gaye Goodwin, Peter Cowley and Robert Dunwoodie had a great 31-11 win over the Deni counterparts.
Elizabeth Thomson, Philip Begley, Gayle Kerr and Garry Hulm lost 15-24 and Adam Harding, Barry McMillan, Peter Thorpe and Colin Ockwell lost 17-24.
Both games went right down to the wire, which was a great effort with team spirit all round.
There is plenty to build on as we head into round three.
Midweek Pennant
A great day on the greens on Tuesday saw our Division 1 team take the win over Echuca, 72-51.
Two wins and a tie brought Mathoura to the winning conclusion.
David Vallance, Philip Begley, Beryl Murray and Peter Pangrazio won 26-22, and Gayle Kerr, Gaye Goodwin, Raymond Murphy and Troy Mansbridge drew with Echuca, 20-all.
Getting Mathoura over the line with a 17 shot win were William Brander, Garry Hulm, Helen Holzer and Peter Holzer.
Mathoura soared to 26 shots, while Echuca were kept to just nine.
There was plenty of talent, teamwork, and a touch of home green magic.
