It is a lead-in to the start of the pennant season, to start early October.
There are 10 teams playing a two bowl triples format, with formidable cash prizes for the best three sides on completion and other smaller gratuities each week, with the White Lion Hotel being a very generous sponsor.
The club recently lost two pennant players within a week, when Stuart Treble and Terry Taylor both passed away suddenly.
In deference to both those avid bowlers and staunch clubmen, and with the approval of both families, the club has respectfully decided to name it ‘The Taylor Made Trebles’.
The concept to have a quick competition before pennant has received glowing commendations from all and sundry, but the opening night didn’t go off without a slight glitch.
It seems two of the skips inadvertently and unintentionally swapped scorecards during the half-time sausage sizzle, which threw the playing order out of sequence, and briefly created a bit of a problem.
Tournament organiser and driving force, Mick Atley, was quickly able to rectify the situation, and all should run smoothly from here.
At the risk of embarrassing them, we can’t name the two skips involved, but the ‘chief’ problem appears to be that they weren’t quite ‘clear’ on what was supposed to happen.
Off to an early lead after the first round is Rob Morris’ team including Mick Atley and John Murray, and Steve O’Brien, Mark Tasker and Ella Hipworth, with those sides the only ones to win both matches.
After play, there was a random draw for two White Lion Hotel vouchers, with Mick Atley and Tom Todd being the lucky recipients.
The second round of matches will be on Thursday from 6pm.
