Carver and star player Kaine Herbert have been entrusted with the task of continuing to keep Kyabram competitive after a golden Newman-coached era — in which he produced five grand final teams in seven years, including three premiership and two runners-up teams and a Victorian record 62 games winning streak.
Carver made it known from the first day he took charge he wanted to develop a relentless running side, hints of which have been evident in the three practice games the Bombers have played in the lead-up to this season.
Those games, though, were against teams not up to Goulburn Valley League standard, so another step up in class still has to be negotiated to see where the Bombers are.
But all the signs so far have been there that life after Newman can still be an enjoyable experience for Bomber fans.
