Jerilderie won the toss and elected to bat, but it didn’t take long for Barooga to take their first scalp, dismissing Brad Aylett snicked behind with just the fourth ball of the game, then only 13 balls later Logan Eldridge was clean bowled by the Barooga skipper Lachlan Sutton for one.
Next in was Travis Lawton, and with the Demons being 2/4 he and Rory Knight had a lot of work to do.
They both knuckled down and got through some challenging overs by the Barooga openers before Knight was out, caught and bowled for 21.
Enter Grant-Patrick Smith, and with the run rate needing a bit of a boost, he delivered, working his way to 39 runs off 42 balls along with four sixes to help get Jerilderie back on track before being caught on the boundary.
With Travis Lawton holding down the fort at one end, each new batter for Jerilderie knew their role was to get the runs flowing.
Cameron Arnold made a quick fire 11 before the zing bails went flying.
Lawton brought up his hard fought 50, then was dismissed the next ball.
It was up to Dan Eldridge to go on with it for Jerilderie, which he did in style, smacking 24 off 26 as Kale Watkins of Barooga ripped through the lower order.
The Demons finished all out for 161 after 36.2 overs.
But just as it was time for the innings break, the rain came pouring down.
After waiting roughly an hour for the rain to clear but with no end in sight, both captains agreed to call it a draw and head home.
Under-11s
The Jerilderie juniors hit the road to Barooga on the Thursday for another great contest.
Despite a fantastic effort with the bat and some noticeable improvement, scoring more runs than last week, the team fell just short, going down by only three runs.
It was a close one, but losing too many wickets throughout the innings made the difference in the end.
However, the players showed great spirit and teamwork from start to finish.
The standout performers were Jobe Marshall and Harry Rorato, who took out the weekly awards.
A big thank you to Makatak and the Jerilderie Bakery for their ongoing sponsorship and support of the junior players.
Next up, Jerilderie will take on Berrigan at Berrigan this Saturday morning. Good luck, keep up the great work!
