The Deniliquin Rams Football & Netball Club have two netball teams playing at home in the first elimination finals tomorrow.
Finishing third at the end of the home and away season, the Rams’ under-17s netball side take the court from 9.30am against the sixth placed Finley Cats.
Meanwhile, the Rams A-grade netballers - who clinched sixth on the ladder last week - play the third placed Mulwala from 1.30pm.
In football, the Deniliquin Rams thirds finished fourth on the ladder and are playing in Congupna this Sunday. They take on fifth placed Tongala from 10.45am.
The fourths finished second on the ladder and play minor premiers Cobram next week at Echuca, in the second semi final, for a place in the grand final.
The final will bring an influx of visitors to Deniliquin, and Deniliquin Rams president Anthony O’Donnell said the club has been excitedly awaiting hosting duties.
“The Rams committee is pretty excited, especially as we haven’t had a final in a few years,” he said.
“We have been preparing fairly vigorously since the Murray League announced that Deniliquin would be hosting an elimination final.”
Tomorrow is set to be a big event with most of the other league clubs involved in finals. Congupna is the only club to not have a side playing in Deniliquin tomorrow, O’Donnell said.
“We’re pretty excited with the way the football fixture has worked out, which means that we will have eight different clubs.
“The numbers should be big so we’re very much looking forward to it.
“We’re also very excited with our under-17s and A-grade sides - we will all be supporting and cheering them on.
“On Sunday, we’ll then travel to Congupna to watch the under-17s footballers in their final.”
Overall, he said the club is well-prepared to give all attendees a great experience.
“We’ve done really well with getting volunteers for the canteen, at the bar and scoreboard among other things.
“We’re expecting a big crowd and really encourage everyone to come down and have a look at the good quality football and netball.
“We’ll have a full canteen, two separate barbecues going, lolly stands and coffee vans as well as parking attendants.
“The weather should be good, and we’re looking forward to it.
“Anyone who wants to pop down to the ground tomorrow is welcome to come down and have a great time.”
