The Rams are coming off a strong, 17 point win in a home game during their indigenous round against the now ninth placed Echuca United.
Their opponents this week played away from home last weekend, beating the previously unbeaten Cobram by 15 points.
The Rams are currently sixth on the ladder with three wins coming against Barooga, Nathalia and Echuca, while also taking three losses against Finley, Mulwala and Rumbalara.
Meanwhile, Tongala sit in eighth position with two wins against Barooga and Cobram and four losses against Echuca, Nathalia, Rumbalara and Moama.
Rams senior football coach Gary Parsons said the team’s win against Echuca was gritty, as will likely be the case for most of the team’s games this year.
“Most of our wins so far have been pretty tight and that was the same on the weekend,” he said.
“Each of our games so far have been a pretty good contest except for against some of the best sides, and we expect that to continue.
“On Saturday we made a few mistakes on-field but overall very happy with the performance.
“To have three 15 year-olds playing in the senior side is pretty good for the future of the club.
“Even this early in the season, the teams around the ladder positions five and six are vying for the last couple of spots in the finals mix.”
This weekend, the Rams travel to a fairly happy hunting ground for them at Tongala.
The last game the side played there was their 2024 elimination final win against the then reigning premiers Mulwala, coming from 26 points down to win by 16.
Despite the good memories, the Rams will be wary of a Tongala side that knocked off Cobram and may have picked up some recruits this season, Parsons said.
“We probably play pretty well on their ground for some reason but they have picked up some players from Darwin.
“If they have their full team in they’ll probably be pretty tough.
“Cam Ilett is a legacy veteran who has played in Darwin playing for them. He’s a bit older but a ripping player.”
Regardless of the opposition they face tomorrow, the Rams will be looking to build on their momentum after a good win last weekend.
“Wins give us a bit of confidence, especially for our young blokes.
“We know it doesn’t always end up like that, but there’s been a couple of close ones we’ve let slip this year.
“But we’re happy how we’re going as we’re going alright at the moment, but we know that can change pretty quickly.”
