We went into the game short on numbers and relied heavily on our amazing fourths to fill the void.
In what was always going to be a tough task for our boys, the score didn’t reflect the great pressure and intensity the boys bought to the match from start to end.
But coach Troy Bartlett was happy with our team’s endeavour.
Final score: Deni Rams 0.2 (2) def by Moama 9.10 (64).
Best players: Josh Todd, Henry Robinson, Luke Moorse, Mitchell Grimwood, Rory Smith, Maxwell Murray.
Fourths
Coming into round 10, the Rams and Moama were in for a very big clash in difficult conditions - a very foggy, wet and muddy contest.
In the first half, Max Burge and Ollie Murray provided big efforts in the contest to link up, break lines and stick tackles.
Ari Strongman provided a strong presence in the backline, flying for marks and creating a damaging run off halfback.
Angus Burge was rock solid down back, playing a crucial role in stopping, tackling and defending well.
Logan Elphick was a big presence up forward as a target, providing strong marks, sharing the ball and kicking crucial goals.
The Rams got over the line, winning a tough contest.
Final score: Deni Rams 5.9 (39) def Moama 2.3 (15).
Best players: Ari Strongman, Ollie Murray, Max Burge, Logan Elphick, Gus Burge.
Goals: Logan Elphick 2, Bentley Hardman, Jaxon Rothe, Max Burge.
The ‘spirit of the game’ award went to Logan Elphick.
Under-12s
It was a night to remember last Friday when Kyabram Bombers Red travelled to Deniliquin to face the under-12s.
They played under a blanket of fog like we’ve never seen before.
It was very difficult for any onlookers and particularly the coach, but what we did see when the play was on the southern side was that captain Will Crossley had a ripping first half, taking many strong marks and had plenty of the ball through the middle corridor.
Rupert Maslen was also a stand-out, with many clean possessions.
Charlie Eastman found the goals twice and the Rams lead 16-0 coming into the main break.
Kyabram fought back well in the third quarter, keeping the young Rams scoreless, and then led early in the fourth.
But the tides turned. Coach Rob Wettenhall ramped up the midfield, keeping the ball in the forward 50 and the boys managed to finish off strongly.
Final score: Deni Rams 4.4 (28) def Kyabram Bombers Red 3.3 (21).
Goals: Charlie Eastman 2, Will Crossley, Charlie Murray.
Awards: Will Crossley, Rupert Maslen, Jasper Dellwo, Chase Dunn.
Under-10s
Rams under-10s played against Kyabram Bombers Red at home on Friday night in cold, fog-drenched conditions.
Visibility was difficult to say the least, however both teams adapted well and there were some brilliant passages of play at both ends of the ground.
The young Rams had a steady first half but lifted as the match progressed, finishing with a very strong third and fourth quarter.
Gus McGrillen kicked the Rams’ first goal for the night, with Levi Robson, Bailey Cabral and Asher Parsons also scoring goals.
The games, however, are not officially scored.
Awards: Cooper Farley, Jed Chadderton, Asher Parsons, Leroy Fisicaro.
