Sent into bat on the first day on a damp Deakin Reserve in Shepparton, the Redbacks enjoyed a positive start from openers Billy McLay and Tim Nelson.
Nelson seized his chance to open the innings with a brisk knock of 27 with four boundaries while McLay saw off five batting partners in a stubborn knock of 39 off 162 deliveries.
But when they and batting trump Kyle Mueller were dismissed, only 47 runs were added by Kyabram’s last seven batsmen with Ethan Hart (19) and Louis Sabbagh-Holt (24) providing most of these runs.
Skipper Mueller was again the mainstay and key contributor for the Redbacks.
Coming off a knock of 158 in the previous round, Mueller made 75 off 90 deliveries with eight boundaries and three sixes.
At stumps, the Tigers were 1/2 off 1.3 overs after the move to open the bowling with spinner Sabbagh-Holt resulted in an immediate breakthrough.
But Sabbagh-Holt will need plenty of support this Saturday to restrict the strong CPSB batting line-up to a losing score and keep Kyabram in finals reckoning.
* Kyabram’s B grade side needs 103 runs with nine wickets in hand to secure first innings points against Central Park-St Brendan’s.

In reply, finished day one at 1/23.
* Kyabram’s E grade team bowled out Katandra in 17.3 overs for 77 and then collected the premiership points by replying with 2/78.
Paul McInnes with 3/19 off five overs was well supported by young Jack Halstead and Asher Porch and Ross Brown, who all took two wickets for Kyabram.
Opener Kristian Chambers (31) and Brown (23 not out) led the successful Kyabram run chase, achieved in 15.1 overs.
