Last weekend, the Redeyes came up against an undefeated Picola United team away from home.
Despite facing a high-scoring Picola United outfit, the Redeyes defended resolutely, keeping Picola United to 15 goals and 14 behinds, going down by 76 points.
No Picola goalkicker got out of hand, with Taylor Beard proving to be the most damaging on the scoreboard with four goals for United.
The Redeyes could have had the scoreboard look slightly more flattering but struggled with inaccuracy, getting 13 scoring shots but only kicking 3 goals and 10 behinds.
The number of scoring shots may prove to be a positive sign.
The individual goals were scored by Dane Leyden as well as Brad and Nick Taylor.
Small forward and midfielder Ari Glover provided plenty of run and spark for Blighty.
The bigger Redeyes bodies of Mason Coote, Brad Taylor, Rusty Milward, Isaac Brown and Kyel Bain were also strong.
However, the challenges don’t get easier for the Redeyes who this week faces the reigning premiers Waaia who are also undefeated this season.
Waaia are coming off an 181 point win against Mathoura last round.
They have also defeated Strathmerton, Katunga and Rennie.
Last season the two teams played each other in round 18 at Blighty, with Waaia coming out the victors by 159 points despite Blighty finishing with six straight goals for the day.
In that match, Ari Glover and Zac Thomson kicked two goals while Brock Thomson and Jack Jennings kicked one each.
For Waaia, Charlie Burrows kicked 13 goals, with Dustin Blake and Kaleb Gilmour kicking five.
The Redeyes will be hoping to continue their strong defensive efforts back on home turf at Blighty Recreation Reserve this weekend.
