Roos, ‘Cutters clash
The Deniliquin Rovers will travel to Mathoura on Saturday for a round seven clash in the Picola and District Football League.
With both sides improving over the season it should be an exciting match-up.
Coming off a close loss against favoured side Strathmerton in round six, the Roos will be feeling confident heading into their game, while the ‘Cutters will be looking to close out their first official win of the season.
“We played a good style of football last week and put ourselves in a good position to win,” said Rovers coach Alex Hay.
“It was probably five minutes into the last quarter where Strathy got on top, which decided the game.
“Again the focus throughout the week has been consistently training well to translate into games.”
Hay said while the side know Mathoura has had a tough six months, Rovers are in no position to take any liberties coming into the game.
He said it will still take their best brand of football to have a chance of winning.
Despite Mathoura’s 76-point loss in round six against Berrigan, coach Stan Gilday says he has high hopes for tomorrow.
“We gave them (Berrigan) a really good contest in the first half,” Gilday said.
“It’s pleasing to see the young guys gaining confidence and fitness and being able to put it all together.”
With only two on the bench last week, if the ‘Cutters can put forward a full-strength side they will be competitive.
Play will start at 2.05pm on Saturday, at the Mathoura Recreation Reserve.
