The Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame dinner was held on Tuesday, August 6, and Rosetta was one of a number of people from the rodeo community honoured.
Rosetta was a 12 year-old, slightly built bull rider when he met Mick Keefe and began his career as a pick up man.
Since taking up the role, he has gone on to become one of the most well known and recognisable pick up men in the country.
He is renowned for his bravery, skill and effortless riding ability.
Joining Robert McPhee’s pick up team and working the 1988 Isa Rodeo was the beginning of a relationship that would shape Rosetta’s career.
Twenty years after being hired by McPhee, he would take over from the man and run his own pick up team.
His own association and relationship with the Isa Rodeo and the riders he has kept safe for over 35 years are part of why he has been inducted into their hall of fame.
When the news was announced on the Isa Rodeo’s Facebook page there were comments of congratulations and adoration for his contributions.
One user commenting “It was a pleasure watching this legend for the last 30 years. Congratulations Lindsay Rosetta. It won’t be the same not hearing your name called over the airwaves at the Isa Rodeo this year”.
“The riders would finish their eight seconds, then it was also our pleasure to watch a true champion show his brilliance. Thank you Mr Rosetta,” another wrote.
Rosetta has quite clearly left an indelible mark on the Isa Rodeo and its wider community.
Speaking to the Pastoral Times this week, Rosetta said the accolade “means a hell of a lot”.
“It’s like any sport; you put the time and the hard work in, dedicate yourself and these sort of things come,” he said.
Having worked and picked up in five states across the country, as well as continuing to judge and team rope, Rosetta said that since starting out in rodeos in 1977 he has “poked along and done a bit of it all”.
Due to his sublime skills on horseback saving riders’ lives, without fear it seemed, and running pick up teams for decades, this honour is only fitting for the man known as ‘Rosie’.
