A flag which could have been unfurled in the possession of either side went the way of the Hoppers after a late break handed them a 30-23 triumph.
Close is an understatement on review of the game.
The sides couldn’t be split at quarter-time, 6-6 the score with neither looking ready to budge.
Rennie slid ahead by two goals at the half and the Rovers were fighting a losing battle heading into the last quarter 23-16 down.
The Hoppers stuck to their guns and saw out the game without mistake, clutching the seven-goal win much to the delight of the many green-clad supporters.
Makayla George was named the umpires’ best-on-court, while Lilly Boyer and Zoe Basset toiled fearlessly for the Rovers.
While the Rovers didn’t come away with the fairytale result they wanted after an undefeated season, team manager Ellissa Boyer said there is a lot to be proud of.
“The Roos’ first half was solid, but Rennie lifted gears in the final half resulting in a seven goal win,” she said.
“Rovers were determined and played their hearts out until the final whistle. Watch out 2024.”
The team of nine players will farewell Zoe Basset and Amelie Bulmer, who are top age and who will head to under-15s selections.
