The Deni Rovers are sitting at a 5-0 win loss record having beaten Mathoura, Blighty, Jerilderie, Berrigan and Picola United.
Meanwhile, Waaia have also built a sizeable competition resume, undefeated this season and have beaten Strathmerton, Katunga, Rennie, Mathoura, Blighty and Jerilderie.
The Bombers are three-time reigning premiers of the Picola senior football, stretching back to the COVID-19 interruption.
Reflecting on their opposition and how he wants the team to play them this week Rovers’ senior football coach Alex Hay said Waaia have “obviously proven to be the benchmark for quite some time now”.
“They play such a fast and skilful brand of football with key players all over the ground,” he said.
“In the past, I have put a lot of time into restricting their ball movement and managing different match ups, but with the growth in the side over the off season, I’d like to focus more on what we can get some control over and plan for some offensive flair.
“Having said that, in our last few encounters they have certainly been on top, so it’s going to be a huge challenge.”
Nearing the halfway mark of the home and away season and with a few players in and out of the side, Hay spoke about the depth of the Rovers squad at the moment.
“The depth within the list has been pretty strong to where we’re at now.
“Adding some senior experience really has been a key, but I’m also just so impressed with how much work the whole group has put in.
“We had great numbers over the pre-season and there are a number of players having dominant seasons in the reserves, which has meant that they have been able to come in and play a role when needed.
“In terms of team balance, that he’s been a really positive aspect of the depth within the group.”
As for how Hay rates his side’s chance of knocking off the top side, he siad it will depend on the day’s performances.
“The message each week really has just been to play your role and stick to the plan as best we can which, I believe, will give us the best chance of at least putting ourselves in a winning position.
“Across all lines, we have players in form and confident in their ability, which is always really important.
“If we can play our brand and take our chances when they come, we will be able to compete with anyone.
“But, of course, it’s easier said than done, so we’ll be looking to action on the weekend.”
