Avenel
Even with all the rain forecast, it didn’t deter our members and the course was presented magnificently, thanks to Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza and Gardens’ Bill (affectionately known as Pizza Bill) and fellow volunteers in Dale Smith, Terry Lowis, Tim Batten and Lindsay Smith.

The juniors were contesting the third round of their championships on Saturday and 11 players turned out to compete.
Campbell Smith shot 26 off the stick, including three birdies in six holes, to win the scratch and tighten up the race for the trophy he won over his big brother last year. He was consequently awarded the Avenel Wood Fired Pizza voucher for his outstanding effort. Lindsay Smith was runner-up and Max Harding came in third.
The handicap was won by Bob Taylor-White with an amazing 19 nett, three shots clear of his sister Hannah Taylor-White, who was having her first competitive hit-out. Max Brown was in third place.
The junior scratch leaderboard is topped by Lindsay Smith, who is nine clear of Campbell Smith, with Max Harding currently third.
The junior handicap is a much closer race, also topped by Lindsay (but you can’t win both), two ahead of Hudson Black. Will Lynch is one further back, with Max Harding, Bob Taylor-White and Campbell Smith snapping at their heels. Big moving Bob could swamp them all if he can repeat this week’s effort. The final round is on Saturday and we hope to see all our juniors there.
The men also played the third round of the championships and there were some big moves made. There was a strong wind across the course all day, and one could have been forgiven for thinking the scores would have suffered as a result, but in a few cases the opposite occurred.
Adam Harrap played one of the best rounds of his life to come from four shots behind to be one in front in the inaugural Bern Stevens Trophy, putting on a driving exhibition and having a flawless day with the flat stick. He shot 82 off the stick to return a 64 nett, easily accounting for the rest of the field and collecting the AGK Accounting $100 voucher, which he generously put over the bar to shout those present. To top it off he also managed to pull his own name out of the tin and collected the fantastic Avenel Meats-sponsored meat tray.
Cam Bassett was runner-up by virtue of a countback over Matt Eddy, both players carding 69, with Mark Hannigan and Stephen Donovan also collecting line balls.
The drive-and-pitch on the seventh went to the Prez Dale Smith and Mark Hannigan claimed nearest-the-pin on the 14th, which was the only one to go off.
Scoota Donovan has pulled away to a five-shot lead in the club championships with some excellent recovery golf, and if Jed had to count this round the margin would be greater.
The Bernie Stevens Trophy is being led by Harrap, one shot ahead of Eddy.
Graeme Toy leads C-grade over Bill Eddy but it appears as though Toy has swapped to bigger balls and is rolling them on the manicured lawn down the road, so if he doesn’t play the next round Bill may well claim the win.
A special mention to our own Bradmanesque performer in Alex Smith. In this year’s championships he is averaging more than the Don and has raised the bat in all three innings so far. Word is if he does it four times in a row there’ll be a book written about it, like Bradman’s 1948 Ashes team but called “Vincible”.
The final round of the club championships will be played on Saturday and it’s also the gold medal round with Bill Eddy, Dale Smith, Alex Smith and Jed Smith qualified. Goulburn Physiotherapy is sponsoring the nett winner of the day with a $100 club voucher.
We plan to have our championship presentations after golf including a barbecue tea and we invite all our members and junior members to come along. The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for juniors. Please remember COVID-19 restrictions must be adhered to.
Look forward to seeing you on the course (or afterwards) on Saturday.

Nagambie
The 2021 gold medal play-off was won by Nagambie junior Ryan Ezard firing a 92-21-71, adding another trophy to his already formidable collection.
Ryan won the C-grade club championship earlier this year and has already taken home the club’s biggest four ball trophy, the Finnigan four ball, in 2020, so it comes as no surprise he continues his winning ways. Well done, Ryan.
A silver medal was also being played for to kick start the new season with the day's best score went to Dean Brown with 81-12-69. The crafty Brown makes a habit of finding form at the right time with next week's Goulburn Cup four ball best ball taking place.
Runner-up was Wayne LeCerf finishing with 88-18-70, only one adrift and another to watch in next week's big event. Gold medallist Ryan Ezard rounded out the top three.
Nearest-the-pin prizes went to Alby Seenan showing he can still hit a good ball on the long par-3 eighth, Alan Anderson showing off on the 13th and Gary Bow firing an arrow at the 16th.
Next week's golf is the re-scheduled Goulburn Cup open four ball for both men and women. Assembly is at 9am for a 9.30am shotgun start. Our day's sponsor is the Nagambie Rowing Club. Entries can be forwarded to Ronda on 0408 349 505 or David on 0419 672 442.
