Blessed with a Hollywood name and the talent to boot, Rose Byrne is a blossoming star of Goulburn Valley League.

The Echuca teen is playing well beyond her age, donning the goal shooter bib as if she were born to wear it and partnering Belinda Lees seamlessly to become one of the competition’s most fearsome goaling combos.

The scary part?

She’s only going to get better.

Byrne has been bestowed The News’ GVL netball Rising Star for June and, though it hasn’t been the Murray Bombers’ most sterling month, one girl in green has rarely faltered.

Hauls of 25, 39 and 31 goals in close losses this month show Byrne’s potency under the ring no matter the fight and her frame, reach and accuracy give Echuca a target no matter the opposition’s stature.

In her breakout A-grade season, Byrne sits seventh on the goal-shooting charts with 266 — and hers is by far the youngest name in the top 10.

To think, just two years ago, she was lifting the trophy in Echuca’s 15-and-under premiership, named best-on-court in a crystal ball moment that pointed to the talent she possessed.

Byrne featured sporadically in A-grade during Echuca’s 2024 premiership bridesmaid campaign, but has nailed down a starting spot in bottle green as the Murray Bombers thrust youth to the fore in 2025.

The fuse has been lit and now Byrne is bringing the fire.
