The day was a success and everyone enjoyed marvellous weather and good company.
In a day of good scores, the winning team was Albert Liebenberg, Grace Tiri, John Wacheke and Mark Thomas.
They were closely followed by Frank Rinaldi, David Grant, Peter Astill and Glen Warren.
Each member of the winning team was presented with Black Hawk decanters and perpetual trophies that will be inscribed and remain on display at the Golf Club.
One trophy has been specially made by John Thomas from a practice bomb and shot up target pieces from the Wanganella bombing range.
The runners-up received Army coolers.
Deniliquin Sub-branch president John Harris said the day had once again turned out a success, and another Diggers Day would be on the calendar for 2024.
He thanked the Golf Club for their generosity, especially Kathy Simpson who was ably assisted by Thiona Higgins to cook the roasts, and Norm Purtill for just about everything else
Harris felt it simpler to just thank Norm “for being Norm”.
He also thanked Mark Thomas, who is a prime instigator of the Diggers Day concept, for his generous donation of the meat.
“The sub-branch was also most appreciative of the magnificent Anzac biscuits that Jenny Choice baked and donated for the day,” he said.
“These were scoffed down by everyone who came within reaching distance.
“The raffle was drawn, and the coffee machine donated by Harvey Norman was won by Ken and the $200 voucher from Deniliquin Jewellers was won by Anita.
“The sub-branch is very appreciative of the support given by both Harvey Norman and Deniliquin Jewellers
“Other raffle winners were Tony, Graham and Dicky.”
In closing, Mr Harris thanked everyone for their support and gave serious thought to adding God to the thank you's for providing a day of perfect weather.
