They were undefeated all season, but the Rovers’ under-13s netballers fell to a slightly more determined Katandra side in the Picola League grand final on Saturdat.
Playing in cold and wet conditions, the young netballers put on what Rovers u13s coach Nerisa Wills described as an “intense game”.
Having finished the home and away season in fifth Katandra matched the ROvers in fight.
The game was tight and tough all the way through, with Katandra winning by just three goals.
“It was extremely close all game,” Wills said.
“It just wasn’t our day, but the girls gave it absolutely everything”.
“It was an amazing season, with some future rising stars on the way up (through the Rovers ranks).
“The skills and leadership shown by the girls was so impressive, and their commitment to the team and team play was fantastic to watch.”
Wills told the Pastoral Times she will be taking a break from netball coaching to support her sons - both of whom played in the fourths grand final at the same time as the under-13s game - through their football careers.
She said she intends to return in the future, and will be keeping a close eye on the netballers’ progress in future seasons.
