Wanderers hopeful ahead of Uni test

The Deni Wanderers are ready to compete again this week in round 10 of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League Division 2 Men’s following the league bye last weekend.

Playing at Deniliquin Rotary Park tomorrow, the Wanderers will be facing La Trobe University Red.

Coach Mark Plant said the team will be missing some players, but hopes to welcome back most of the squad.

“We’ve got two (confirmed) outs - Christian Ellis, who is overseas, and Hamish Baker who is out for the season with an injury.

“As far as I know, we should have everyone else back for this week.”

Plant said the team’s focus is to build towards the end of the season.

But Plant said La Trobe Red are a strong attacking team that will test the Wanderers’ defence.

“They have scored 15 in a game before and put in 10 last round against Golden City Black.

“They’re strong at scoring goals and we’ve been a bit leaky at the back, so that will be an interesting challenge.

“Being a home game, we should have everyone down.

“There is a plan. It’s just getting everyone in to work towards that plan.

“We’re looking forward to the test. That’s what we play for.”
